About Machelle Miller, MS, LMHC, NCC (WA Lic# 61516360)
Welcome…
I help individuals and couples navigate the new reality of life after loss, trauma, or other major transitions through approaches that not only help you process an experience but also target the things that could be holding you back from connection and thriving.
One of the greatest gifts I was ever given was a safe, supportive, and compassionate space to grieve a major loss and that is the kind of space I strive to create for clients. I know how powerful it can be to have a witness to your story who can sit with you in some of the most trying times. As a counselor, I see my role as a guide to help you through times of change or when navigating the healing of your past so that you can thrive in the present and have hope for the future. My goal is to help you get to a point where you have the strength, skills, and confidence to be able to leave counseling to thrive and flourish without needing to be in therapy for years.
I am based in rural, central Washington state and provide telehealth services to adults and couples across the state and in-person services at my office located in Ephrata, Washington.
Miller Relationship Center is founded on the principle that relationships are key to our mental health and overall wellbeing, whether it’s the relationship you have with yourself, with others, or with the systems and world around you. The approaches I use keep those relationships in mind and at the forefront of the work we do together. Relationships can be the source of some of our greatest wounds, but they can also be the source of our healing and flourishing.
Change isn’t easy (even when it’s “good”).
There are no right or wrong ways to navigate changes in life or to grieve a loss. My goal is to provide you with a safe, comfortable, compassionate space to talk, explore, heal, and grow. In addition to talking, we also work on skills and tools to help you cope and take action when needed. Supportive feedback is also part of the process. Sometimes growth comes when we are appropriately challenged and we can explore if beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world are really working for us, our relationships, and communities.
You're here because you don’t want to keep doing this alone.
Sometimes we can feel most alone when we are surround by other people. Well-meaning folks in our lives sometimes don’t realize that the platitudes and well-intended advice they might offer are really not helpful and at times can feel even more hurtful than what you are already dealing with. Having someone you feel you can talk to openly can help you feel less alone. However, it’s not always just talk. Some situations call for action as well. Sometimes we need to be challenged to change what we are doing or what we are focused on thinking.
It’s not always about feeling better and getting the right advice, but having a place where you can be vulnerable and honest about what you are experiencing, thinking, and feeling. Most of our greatest hurts occur in the context of relationships, but tremendous healing can occur in relationships as well. It isn’t just about the space, but the coalition we build that models healthy relationships, communication, and problem-solving.
How I work:
At the core of my approach to therapy is a belief that you are doing the best you can.
Everyone is doing the best they can with the experiences, skills, tools, resources, relationships, and feelings that they have. We explore how different systems (family, education, political, social, religious, spiritual, work/economic, etc.) impact you both in the past and the present. The goal is never to cast blame but to better understand yourself and your relationships.
We will work to identify your strengths and how to build on them. We will identify where you may need new or updated tools or skills. We will examine how your experiences have influenced your beliefs and what patterns may need to change to be more in alignment with your values, goals, the person you want to be, and the quality of your relationships.
Therapy with me is…
-
No one can ever really know what it is like to be you, but they can understand. I ask questions with the intention of getting to know you and understand where you are coming from, what you are experiencing, and what is important to you. Your voice and choice are at the forefront of the work we do together.
-
It takes time. Grieving, healing, growth, change, learning, they all take time and they seldom conform to our timelines or expectations. Sometimes it feels like we take three steps forward only to stumble two back. That is all part of the process. We go at your pace.
-
The goal of our work together is to see and feel a difference. Throughout the process we assess if you are getting results and moving in a direction you desire. Sometimes, there will be set backs, but we work together to get you back on track.
I use approaches backed by research and lived-experiences to guide our work. We collaborate to find an approach that works for you and is backed by research showing that approach to be safe, ethical, and effective.
